Rock Creek High School History

In 1947 Rock Creek High School closed.  There were also numerous one room schools in Rock Creek and surrounding townships, that were all closing from that time into the early 1960's.  A majority of the students traveled to Meriden Schools. As they became a part of that school so did their history.

Following are articles from writings and publications about Rock Creek High School.  If you find any mistakes or would like to add more information please contact me.

The first year book "The Review" was published in 1936 and again in 1939.

The next year book was produced in 1941 and the name was changed to "The Rocket".  The Rocket was also published in 1942 - ?.

1936 - 1941 and 1942 yearbooks can be viewed on this web site.

We are looking for a 1939, and any other Rock Creek year books to be scanned and placed on this web site for others to see.

The following information was take from an alumni  newsletter written by John Kane in 1970.

Rock Creek High School was in existence from 1916 through 1947.

On May 31, 1970, the first alumni reunion was held in the basement of the church. It was a warm, rainy day, but due to the tremendous turnout, the abundance of delicious food and each person trying to figure out who everyone was , it was a success.

During the existence of Rock Creek High School there were 130 graduates. Seventy-one of these were in attendance. In addition to the alumni, everyone who had at one time attended our High School, all former teachers, and everyone who felt they had strong ties in the Rock Creek community were cordially invited.

They were Artie Lake, May Hunter (Anderson), Ray Cook and Helen Cook (Johnson); of these, Artie Lake, May Hunter (Anderson) and Helen Cook (Johnson) were in attendence.

The only former Rock Creek High School teacher of record who was in attendance was Mary Zinmerman, now residing at 1907 Simms, Salina, Kansas.

During the business session, it was voted to hold our reunion again next year on May 30, 1971, and probably in the church building. The consensus of opinion was that more people made an effort to get back home on Memorial Day than any other time of the year. So, set aside, right now, Sunday, May 30, 1971, and plan to attend. You will not be disappointed.

Attached is a roster of all those who graduated from Rock Creek High School from 1916 through 1947. Those attending this year are underlined. We hope all the information in this roster is correct. If there is a mistake, please forward the correct information to me.

Much of the credit must be given to Mrs. Rosena Gier for getting all this information together, getting notices out and many other arrangements that made our reunion the great success it was.
