  By-Laws



ARTICLE I - Name and Organization:  The name of this organization shall be the Meriden Rural / Jefferson West Alumni Association.  The purpose is to promote and encourage fellowship and friendship for all of those who have attended Meriden Rural High School and Jefferson West High School.

ARTICLE II - Members:  Members of the Alumni Association are those who have attended Meriden Rural High School from 1909 to 1969 and Jefferson West High School from 1970 through the latest class approved by the Association. Each year’s graduates shall be invited annually into the Alumni Association.

ARTICLE III - Meetings:  An annual reunion and business meeting will be held on the last Saturday evening of May.  Members shall be notified by mail regarding the specifics related to time, date, place, etc. This reunion/meeting shall feature a banquet style meal and a program arranged by the Executive Committee.

ARTICLE IV - Officers:  Elected officers are:  President, Vice-President, Secretary/ Treasurer, and Historian.  These four elected officers will serve as the Executive Committee and shall function in accordance with the Alumni Association and it’s By- Laws.

President:  chief presiding officer who is charged with the appropriate functioning of the Executive Committee and the Alumni Association.  

Vice-President:  assist the President and assume leadership duties in the absence of the President.  This position also will be responsible for editing the newsletter.

Secretary/Treasurer:  document minutes of the annual meeting as well as maintaining membership rosters, mailing invitations, and handling all financial transactions and records.

Historian: assist the Secretary/Treasurer in maintaining membership rosters and addresses and record date of deceased alumni.

ARTICLE V - Elections:  The Executive Committee will serve as the Nominating Committee for the election of officers.  The President shall call for nominations from the floor during the annual meeting.  Those who are nominated must indicate a willingness to serve in the capacity for which the nomination is made.

ARTICLE VI - Amendments:  These By-Laws may be amended at any annual meeting by a two-thirds majority vote of the members present.  Such amendments must be submitted in writing to the Executive Committee at least sixty days in advance of said annual meeting.
